Trip to Govardhan Eco Village

Sorry for the delay in making a new blog post. I had gone on this trip, which was organized by We Group and Bhakti Vedanta Hospital Foundation (BVHF) 2 weeks ago and after that my college had begun so I was busy. This trip that I had gone for was so wonderful that I had decided to write about it as soon as I got back home. Now, you’re wondering why this trip to the village is worth mentioning. Here’s why:

1.      Location:
The village is located far away from the hustle and bustle of our city (Mumbai) thus giving it a quiet and cool atmosphere.

2.      The village:
It is not a typical village where the roads are bad, cows roaming freely here and there, people looking in awe as though you have come from a foreign land. It is an ecological village as the title suggests which is functional and self-sustainable. The people are updated with the modern technologies and amenities but they do not require it.

3.      Scenario:
If one would spend a day here, then only would he/she be satisfied by the flora and fauna the people have been able to sustain in the village. For a photographer, it would be paradise!

4.      Food:
The food served here is organic and was appetizing. They also cook food from the fresh crops that they produce in the farms.

5.      Pandits:
The Pandits not only had knowledge regarding our culture, but they were well aware about the modern technologies that we use and the flaws many of them have. They explained to us about it in a simple manner using the example of a cow and the various amenities that the cow gives and how the industry exploits the usage of cows in a cruel manner. Whenever the Pandits spoke, they grabbed the attention of the audience which usually doesn’t happen in the city especially since people don’t have much time for prayers and even themselves!

6.      Activities:
Treasure Hunt, Paper Bag making, Best out Of Waste and making Warli paintings were some of the activities that were organized. These activities gave us enjoyment and also thought us some lessons about how we can save the environment at the lowest levels. It was also made sure that the activities were only fun activities and not competitive.

7.      Drama:
Since it was a last minute practice, the drama was not executed well. But the script was strong and the puns could have been effective had the actors practiced for a longer time. A special mention for Akanksha who got most of the facts and theories about the environment right. But, shower bath consumes 90 litres of water while a bucket bath consumes 40 litres of water. Don’t take a shower bath Akanksha!

Overall, I loved the place. The trip was fantastic and worth going another time, which my friends have decided to do so during our vacations. People should go to this place as you gain ample knowledge about the environment and thus how you can implement it in your daily life. They also have a research centre where they are finding different methods in which they can help the environment. I have decided to spend my retirement days here!
