Sealed Coin: Soul Talks
Suresh and his son Vijay come out of the bedroom and walk
towards the hall. They stand near the dining table in the hall. Asha observes
that Suresh’s eye colour has turned red. Her son is looking downwards in
depression. Suresh looks at Santji and speaks with him in a language Asha
cannot understand. Santji replies to him in a similar language. Suresh then
looks at Asha and asks, “Are you ready to be possessed?” Before Asha could
utter a word, Santji interrupts her and asks, “Why don’t you tell us about your
story first?” “Why should I?” Suresh asks. “It will make the possession
easier,” Santji replies. “I can do that even now. How would my story make the
possession easier?” Suresh asks. “Atleast your wife will know about you and
thereby have a connection with you,” Santji replies.
Suresh then looks at Asha and then tells her about his
previous life. The story is similar to what Santji had told her about the
village culture and tradition. When Suresh tells her about the war for which he
was called he said, “My wife was pregnant at the time when a war was coming to
our village. As I had to do my duty to protect the village, I went to battle
with my fellow soldiers. Although inexperienced, we put up a brave battle. But
battles are not won with bravery alone. We lost the battle and the war.” Suresh
pauses for a moment and then said, “Upon hearing that we had lost the battle,
my wife had decided to kill herself. She didn’t want to experience the wrath
and the pain that the invading army would bring upon her and her villagers. She
also requested our priests to burn her body alongside her husband.
After killing herself, the priest did burn her body alongside
her husband but they sealed her and her husband in the coin in the hopes of
seeking revenge with the invaders. We were trapped in the coin for far too
long.” Suresh pauses again and then continues, “But now that we have found
freedom, I would like to utilise it by living our lives again. Peacefully, our
family will live it without the need to go onto another war. This is the reason
why I have possessed your husband’s body.” Santji asks, “What will happen to
his soul?” “It will vanish as we are eating its power to maintain ourselves,”
Suresh replied. Asha is shocked to hear this.
Santji throws ashes on Suresh. He screams in pain. Vijay
looks at his father as though he was awoken from a deep sleep. Suresh then
kneels on the ground, looks upward and a red smoke exits his body through his
mouth. The red smoke escapes the hall through the window. Another blue smoke exits
his body through his mouth and leaves the hall room in a similar fashion as the
red smoke. Suresh and Vijay both fall flat on the ground. Asha, scared that her
husband and son might have died, checks them for a pulse or heartbeat. Both of
them are breathing but are unconscious. Asha asks Santji, “What did you do?” “I
saved your husband’s life,” Santji replied and then took out a bottle. He took
some cream from the bottle and applied it on Suresh’s and Vijay’s foreheads.
Suresh and Vijay and resting in the bedroom. Asha and Santji
are now discussing about the events that took place. “I invoked the souls of
our dead priests and then made sure they gave peace to the souls that were
possessing your husband,” Santji said to Asha. “Souls? What do you mean by that,”
Asha asked. “There were two souls that possessed your husband, one of the
warrior and the other one was his wife. But only the wife wanted to live. The
warrior wanted to be free,” Santji replied. “Why would the wife only want to
live?” Asha asked. “It’s the story that gave me the hint that it was only the
wife that wanted to live. Suresh paused twice while telling the story. It means
that while the warrior told the truth about his story and wanted to be freed,
his wife wanted to live their lives again. But since the husband was didn’t
want to, the only person who could hold Suresh’s soul was the wife. Thus my
conclusion,” Santji replied. “But why my husband and why not me? It did have
the opportunity to take over my soul, “Asha said. “Which is why I asked you
about your backgrounds before telling you about the events that took place at
present. Consider the background and environment in which you and Suresh grew
up. Suresh had a comfortable life as his parents were rich and gave him all the
comforts that he needed. He didn’t face too many hurdles and problems almost
his entire life. He took over family business and got married to you without a
hitch.
As for you, you have had a tough time growing up. Your family
was poor and you faced many difficulties in your life. You have faced incidents
wherein you had to put up a fight against those trying to harm you and your
family. After you finished your education, you got a job that helped your
family and thereby you earned enough money to start your own business. You got
married to Suresh but you say that you were lucky to find someone like Suresh.
Now since Suresh was the weaker among the two of you, he was possessed easily
as his fear heightened and it is easy to possess a scared soul. The one that
was given the opportunity to possess you was the warrior. But after looking at
you, it must have seen the bravery within you and thereby couldn’t harm you.
Also the warrior wanted to be freed from the present circle of life therefore
it didn’t want to live again.”
“What about my son? He was with Suresh for some days,” Asha
said. “The soul that possessed Suresh’s body said that it was pregnant before
she died. I guess it wanted to feel the love that normally parents would feel
for their kids,” Santji said. “Asha! Asha!” Suresh called his wife from the
bedroom. Asha and Santji went to the bedroom. Suresh who was sitting now and
massaging his head asked his wife, “What happened here? I saw a strange
dream….red eyes…a vision……” “Don’t worry, I will explain,” Asha said. She then
told him about the entire incident. “Will I be alright now?” Suresh asked. “Yes
you will be. You just need some rest. Your soul was being eaten upon. It will
take some time to recover,” said Santji. “Mummy……mummy” Vijay was murmuring in
his sleep. Asha took Vijay in her arms and said, “Mummy is here beta. Don’t
worry everything will be fine.” “Where is my mother?” Vijay asked. “I am here
only son,” Asha said. Vijay pushed Asha, looked at her and asked, “Where is my
mother?” Asha looked at her son carefully. She then saw that his left eye was
slowly turning from black to red.
