Sealed Coin: Possession

Vijay screamed loudly. Suresh & Asha rush towards their bedroom to find Vijay crying and the coin dropped on the floor. Asha picks Vijay into her arms and calms him down. Suresh picks the coin and asks Vijay, “What happened?” “The coin..red eyes…I saw red eyes,” said Vijay, while washing his tears. “Oh Vijay, you are just seeing things. The coin doesn’t have eyes like us. Calm down son, lets wash your face now,” said Asha. She takes her son to the washroom, while Suresh tried to find the red thread that was tied to the coin. He suspects that Vijay untied the thread. But he cannot find it. He keeps the coin back in the showcase cupboard, thinking that he will be able to find the thread later. Suresh suddenly feels a strange aura around him but shrugs it off.

Late in the night, Suresh who was sleeping in the bedroom with Asha, suddenly got up. He is sweating and breathing heavily, as if he saw a nightmare. Suresh sits up and drinks water from a bottle kept on a table beside the bed. While calming himself down, he catches a glimpse of the coin kept in the showcase cupboard shine. He gets up and walks towards the cupboard. He removes the coin and holds it up with his hand. For a moment, he thought he saw an illusion. But slowly, he sees it clearly, red eyes looking back at him.

The next few days, Asha observes that Suresh is behaving strangely. He is depressed, doesn’t talk much with her. He also skips going to office at times. He even locks himself in the bedroom at odd times and keeps talking to himself in a strange language. Asha also observes that Suresh keeps the coin that they had bought close to him. When asked why he is doing so, he gets angry on her. Asha starts feeling that her husband has gotten obsessed with the coin.

One night, Asha is awakened by Suresh. She immediately gets up and tires witching the lights on. But the lights are not working. Wondering why the lights are not working, she looks at her husband. “Suresh, why are the lights not working?” Asha asks. Suresh doesn’t answer and gives her a blank look. Asha gets worried and wonders what’s wrong with Suresh. “Suresh are you alright? You have been acting weirdly these days? IS there anything you want to talk about?” Asha asked. Suresh doesn’t respond. “Is there anything that is troubling you?” Asha asks again. Suresh removes a coin from his pocket and shows it to her. Asha looks at it and sees that it is the ancient coin that they had bought. Before she could ask Suresh anything, she sees and trembles in fear on the sight of two red eyes looking back at her from the coin.
